Dortmund win Bundesliga

Borussia Dortmund won the Bundesliga with two games to spare and AC Milan need one more point to clinch their first Serie A title since 2004.

The weekend results in England and the Netherlands set up dramatic finales in those leagues while Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid both lost as they prepared for next week’s Champions League semi-final second leg.

Premier League leaders Manchester United went down 1-0 at Arsenal and go into next Sunday’s match against champions Chelsea just three points ahead of their opponents with three games left.

Dutch leaders Twente Enschede will face second-placed Ajax Amsterdam to decide the title in the final match of the season.

Borussia Dortmund won the Bundesliga for the seventh time and the first since 2002 as they beat Nuremberg 2-0 and challengers Bayer Leverkusen lost 2-0 at Cologne.

First-half goals from Paraguayan Lucas Barrios and Pole Robert Lewandowski sent Dortmund eight points clear with two games to go and left four-times Leverkusen still waiting for their first league title.

Few had believed in Dortmund’s title chances before the season began as they lined up a largely untried and untested group of young players, but they won 22 out of 32 games and lost only four.

Coach Juergen Klopp had beer poured over him by his players in traditional German celebrations after the final whistle.
